The baby unit at Sweet Pea Heath is situated on the 1st floor. It is a cosy, welcoming room with plenty of natural light. We can accommodate nine babies in the unit with a ratio of 1 staff to 3 babies. The staff assigned to the baby unit are all qualified and have extensive experience to encourage the babies through their early stages of development.

Within the unit the babies enjoy free play as well as structured activities. The routine in the baby unit is adaptable to suit the individual needs of the young baby. Craft or messy play is offered each day within a designated ‘activity area’ – including sand, water, and other messy activities. Our baby unit has a separate sleep room, which consists of 6 cots and a monitor system in place. Each baby is provided with fresh bedding on a daily basis and cots are cleaned and wipe down in between uses.

The room has a table at which older children can begin to sit at and for the smaller children we have pop up high chairs which are used for meal times.

We have a separate milk kitchen area where staff can prepare fresh feeds and clean and sterilise bottles.

We listen to the children and actively involve them in the decision making process at Nursery and we take on board the benefits to children as our primary motivation. Our staff will work in partnership with you to ensure a happy, caring and stable environment is available at all times for all children and their families. You will be given every opportunity to be kept involved in your child's progress.

Our chick pea room is also situated on the 1st floor and works closely alongside our baby pea room. It is a spacious area with suitable equipment for toddlers to have the space they require. It is designed to accommodate six 1-2 year olds with a staff ratio of 1 staff per 3 children.

The children within this room are offered a variety of toys, equipment and activities throughout their day including a book corner and soft play area. Staff will plan and provide structured and free flow play in line with the Early Years Foundation Phase.

In this room the children eat their meals around the table and sleep on roll out beds with fresh bedding each day.

The 1st floor has a spacious bathroom with a double nappy changing unit and necessary facilities for children who may begin potty training at an early age.

This age group has one base room downstairs to accommodate 12 children. This room works on a staff ratio of 1 staff to 4 children.

A wide range of toys, puzzles and games are available and changed regularly. Activities are based on a weekly theme taken from observations on the children during play. The aim is to develop the children’s knowledge by working on things which interest them. This room has tables for the children to sit and have their meals and the use of roll out beds is also available for those who need to nap during the day. The Chick pea room is located next to the downstairs bathroom which boasts two toilets, two hand basins, potties and nappy changing facilities.

The Spring pea room is based downstairs and consists of two separated areas accommodating 13 children. The room is provided with suitable equipment and preschool activities.

The starting point for our Nursery Curriculum is the Early Years Foundation Phase, but the depth and breadth of coverage goes far further. Our curriculum is carefully planned and co-ordinated to ensure the children at Sweet Pea Heath receive a relevant, balanced, enjoyable and challenging learning experience.

In this room the children have a designated area for eating meals and are encouraged to use knives and forks. There is also a toilet and hand basin which children can easily access.

A lot of our pre-school activities involve being outdoors and our Spring Pea room has open access to our Nursery garden. During dry weather the main door is open and the children can choose to play outside or inside.
